The Covid-19 infection rate for every postcode in the North East as rules are relaxed

Lockdown restrictions have been eased, as England continues to crawl out of the third lockdown.

On Monday, rules were relaxed for the first time in months as the stay-at-home order ended with people allowed to gather outdoors in groups of up to six.

However, despite the relaxation of rule coronavirus infections rates in the North East differ greatly from postcode to postcode.

Some parts of the region are currently seeing the infection rate surge, while in large swathes, Covid-19 cases are currently suppressed.

That means there were no more than two cases there in the past week – and potentially none – in some areas.

However in almost every corner of the region, infection rates are much lower than they were at the start of this latest lockdown.

Rates are generally at their lowest level since last summer, with the Government’s vaccination programme also now in full swing.

These are the current infection rates where you live.

(The data, extracted from the UK Government’s Covid-19 data map, is correct up to the week ending March 23. Infection rates are the number of cases for every 100,000 residents)
